unusual routes
This route will be interesting both to guests of St. Petersburg, as well as to those who go underground to get to work every day, not suspecting what amazing stories are hidden in the usual stations of the St. Petersburg metro.
How are the glass columns arranged at the Avtovo metro station? Is it true that the pavilion of the Kirovsky Zavod station can be seen on a five-dollar bill? The high relief above the Narva escalator depicts a group of workers who are looking at the center of the composition, but nobody is there - why? And where does the nickname “Five Men on Four Horses” come from in the copper panel in the passage “Alexander Nevsky Square”?
You will learn these and other amazing facts about the St. Petersburg metro on the underground route along the Red and Green lines. At some stations you will come to the surface. We advise you to buy the necessary number of tokens in advance (1 token - 45 rubles): travel tickets have a timeout of 10 to 20 minutes.
The route starts from the Avtovo station of the 1st line - it was from here that the Leningrad metro started. On November 15, 1955, the first metro train arrived at this station to head to the Uprising Square.
After admiring the unique "crystal" columns, take the train towards the center. At each station you will find something interesting and unique.
At the Kirovsky Zavod, we advise you to go up to inspect the pavilion built in the ancient Greek style, and at Narva to pay attention to the high relief above the escalator passage.
Having reached the "Uprising Square", go to the Mayakovskaya station. This is a closed type station, the so-called “horizontal elevator” (by the way, the first such station in the world was opened on April 29, 1961 in Leningrad - it was “Victory Park”).
From "Mayakovskaya" get to the "Alexander Nevsky Square", there, look at the passage panels with the old Russian soldiers and find the error.
Now take the train towards Novokrestovskaya. Along the way, you can go to the “Gostiny Dvor” and try to guess the plot of the mosaic panel above the escalators, and on the “Primorskaya” - go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (only if you signed up for an excursion in advance).
The final destination of your trip will be Novokrestovskaya, an ultramodern station in alluvial territories, built specifically for the FIFA 2018 World Cup.
