unusual routes
Vasilievsky island is a strange place in itself. Here, instead of streets, there are lines, instead of names, numbers; moreover, the numbers on the right and left sides of the street are different. Here all the paths lead to the sea. Here is the Peter's collection of wonders and the narrowest street in St. Petersburg, similar to the streets of medieval cities. And it was on this island that Joseph Brodsky was going to die in his classic poem.
Unusual sights of Vasilievsky Island - the theme of our route from the series "Petersburg Discoveries".
Starting from the Spit of Vasilyevsky Island, you will walk along the University Embankment, and the Peter’s Kunstkamera will become the first point of the route. Get ready to stand in line, especially during the tourist season and at the weekend, but you can skip the line and have a look at the Kunstkamera courtyard, where you will find a collection of idols from South Columbia.
In the courtyards of the University, or rather, the Faculty of Philology, a curious collection of urban sculpture is hidden. Only students are allowed to enter this courtyard, and other visitors - only on Saturdays, but maybe you're lucky ...
We continue the trip along the promenade, where right on the granite parapet you will see a monument ... to a bridge. The floating St. Isaac's Bridge stood here for almost 200 years and in 1916 it burned down.
Then take a walk along the narrowest street in St. Petersburg – Repin street, and then on the corner of the 4th line and Bolshoy Prospect, stop by the “Spirit Courtyard” and, looking at a tiny piece of sky above your head, make a wish.
Through Bolshoy Prospect, go to the 7th line, where you can visit the famous Pel Pharmacy with the Griffin Tower. Then turn towards the metro on St. Andrew's Boulevard - the most beautiful pedestrian zone in St. Petersburg. Along the way, you will meet Vasily Korchmin, in whose honor, according to legend, the island is named, and near the metro you will see a monument to the St. Petersburg horse.
At the metro station "Vasileostrovskaya" the route ends. But a five-minute walk away, on the 4th line, there is a small but amazing private museum that will take you to the atmosphere of the Leningrad “communal” post-war years. The museum is open on Fridays and Sundays.
