The Love of Three Oranges: Casanova’s Venice, Diaghilev’s St. Petersburg

The exhibition shows how the image of the 18^th century Venice was reflected in the culture of Russia’s Silver Age whose poets and artists were taking their inspiration from Italy’s Commedia dell’arte and, particularly, plays by Carlo Gozzi and Carlo Goldoni.

Centered around the imagery of Gozzi’s The Love of Three Oranges, the project unites Italy’s settecento art and Russia’s Silver Age into an integrated idea, with Giacomo Casanova and Sergei Diaghilev presented as symbols of both epochs.
