The memorial sign "The Epistle Through the Ages" was opened on October 25, 2002, on the eve of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg and the 265th anniversary of the Vasileostrovsky district. It is installed on the University embankment near the faculty of philology of St. Petersburg State University.

The monument designed by the artist Evelyn Solovieva, architect  Oleg Romanov and art critic Abram Ruskin. It is made in the form of a large open book, on the pages of which the lines from the Pushkin's poem «The Bronze Horseman» are written. The famous monument to Peter the Great "The Bronze Horseman" is located opposite of “The Open Book”, across the Neva.
