The monument to Vasily Andreevich Zhukovsky, the author of many classical poems, ballads, and romances, was opened for the 100th anniversary of his birth in the Alexandrovsky Garden. The authors of the sculpture relied on the picturesque portrait of the poet T.Sh. Gildbranta and the sculpture of Zhukovsky that was created during the life of the poet.

A bronze bust on a black granite pedestal faces the Palace Square and is clearly visible from there. The poet was close to imperial family, Zhukovsky was the mentor of Alexander II.
