Monument
Created by artist Vladimir Gorevoy and architect Nikolai Elgazin, Russia’s first ever monument to the outstanding marine painter Ivan Aivazovsy was unveiled September 5, 2007 to mark his 190-year jubilee.
Kronstadt was a special place in Aivazovsky’s life and career. The then-19-year-old artist once came there to eventually create seven seascapes that would make him a prominent painter.
The 4-meter-high monument (including the 1.8-meter-high bronze sculpture itself) depicts the master at work with his palette and brushes.
