The first house on Nevsky Prospect in this place was built in 1833-1834 according to the project of Ya.Ya. Freiberg for the wife of the secret adviser Rühl. It was a three-story house with four-story courtyard wings.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the building was rebuilt in eclectic style by the project of architect L.L. Fufaevsky for a banker, a Turkish citizen G.G. Block The house became a six-story building, and, partly, the walls of the old building were used.
The facade of the house is divided into two tiers: the lower three floors are opened with wide windows-showcases of commercial and office premises, the upper floors with an attic are distinguished by a catchy and lush decoration. The richness of the forms stands out the completion of the middle part, which includes a bay window, balconies and attic, large volutes and female statues, intricate metal decor.
G.G. Block worked in the financial field since 1884, when he founded his banking house. But in 1906 his business declined, and the banker hanged himself in his office. After Block, the building was owned by process engineer P. A. Bykov.
In the 1920s, a shop of the North Electrotechnical Company was opened here, later “Electrical goods”. Today the building houses many different offices, shops and a post office.
