Famous building
This pictorial eight-story Nordic Art Nouveau building is an architectural dominant in the surrounding neighborhood. Designed by architect Yakov Bluwstein in 1911-12, it is richly decorated with animal sculptures, mascarons, vases, and other eclectic elements.
Its focal part that faces the corner of the streets it is located on is crowned with a dome and a tower with a niche housing an elegant Gratia statue. Originally, the tower was decorated with a spire that has not survived to the present day.
Like most of other stylish tenements in that time, Pomeshchik boasted many state-of-the-art engineering amenities including elevators, modern water supply, sewing and hot water heating systems, and even a vacuum cleaner pump in the basement switched to every apartment in the building.
