Built in 1475 with funding from the town’s residents, the quadrangular stone Town Hall Tower is the only surviving medieval fortified tower in what once was the town’s wall.

After having lost its importance as a defensive structure in the 17th century, the tower became municipal property, eventually converted into the belfry of the local Dominican monastery.

In the 1790s, it was decorated with a tall spire crowned by a vane in the shape of a trumpeting angel. The original spire was unfortunately destroyed on March 13, 1940, the last day of the Soviet-Finnish War.

Presently part of the Vyborg Museum, the renovated tower with its sightseeing platform provides a great opportunity to view the town and its surroundings.
