What can you expect?
Modern is freedom that does not like straight lines. The topic of the excursion with an expert on the architecture of St. Petersburg and Western Europe is a short but brilliant history of the Art Nouveau style in the Northern capital. You will learn about the reasons for the appearance and early decline of Art Nouveau on the banks of the Neva, see the most striking examples of style, hear the dramatic stories of the inhabitants of these houses.
The route passes through the city center, Petrogradskaya side and Kamenny Island. Walking tours will alternate with trips to beautiful places in a comfortable car.

What are the features and mysteries of St. Petersburg Art Nouveau? Why did this stage last only 20 years and was interrupted with the outbreak of World War I? What do the metro pavilions in Paris and the mansions in the center of St. Petersburg have in common? What are Bent Stem and Scourge Strike?
We will examine the House of Books, aka the House of Singer, compare it with the Eliseevsky store, admire the Vitebsk railway station and find out what is the difference between the Melzer house and the Mertens house.
We will visit the "Art Nouveau Reserve" - Kamenny Island, where wealthy people have rented summer cottages since Pushkin's times. Some of these summer cottages are reminiscent of fairytale palaces.
On the Petrogradskaya Side, which has become the way we know it, thanks to Art Nouveau, we walk around the mansion of Matilda Kshesinskaya and the nearby Cathedral Mosque (imagine, it is also made in the Art Nouveau style!).
We will talk about the "northern modernity" that came to us from Finland and Sweden. We will walk along Kamennoostrovsky Avenue, where the great Frederic Lidval worked. We will see a house that resembles a miniature Kshesinskaya mansion, and a tenement house where Maxim Gorky hosted Bunin and Mayakovsky, Chaliapin and Korney Chukovsky.
