On November 19, the Mikhail Shemyakin's Nutcracker exhibition opens at the Mikhail Shemyakin Center. Theater of the Artist ". The project is timed to coincide with the 245th anniversary of the birth of Hoffmann, the 205th anniversary of the first publication of his book with fairy tales, which included the text of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, as well as the 20th anniversary of the premiere of the ballet created by Mikhail Shemyakin for the Mariinsky Theater ...

The exposition introduces the artist's interpretation of one of the most famous fairy tales of Hoffmann through the prism of two productions - "The Nutcracker" and "The Magic Nut". The space of the exhibition resembles a backstage labyrinth, where the visitor, surrounded on all sides by velvet curtains, decorations and characters, turns into a spectator, and the museum itself turns into a theater.

The Shemyakin Center will present original sketches for the costumes and scenery of the Nutcracker ballet, rare shots of the preparation of this production, works in the technique of circulation graphics and sculptural images of the characters of the performance. Also, visitors to the exhibition will see a number of illustrations to the "Everyday views of the cat Murr" and "Kreislerians" by Hoffmann, created by Mikhail Shemyakin in the Leningrad period.

The exhibition project is being implemented with the support of the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg.
