The exhibition presents Western European painting and graphics of the XIV-XVIII centuries from private collections in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The exhibition includes works by Rembrandt, Albrecht Durer, Frans Snyders, Peter de Hoch, Francesco Morandini and other artists.

The earliest and one of the most interesting paintings at the exhibition was "Madonna and Child Holding a Goldfinch" by the Sienese school, workshop of Niccolò di Senha, first half of the 14th century. Also on display will be the Madonna and Child with Pear by Francesco Verla (1470-1521), one of the rarest and most amazing artists of the Umbrian High Renaissance school.

Another rare canvas at the exhibition is "Mistress and Servant in the Interior" by Peter de Hooch (1624-1684). This is the only work of the master to date from a private collection in Russia. In total, four paintings by the painter are kept in Russian museums (the State Hermitage and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts). Pieter de Hooch belongs to a brilliant galaxy of artists from the Golden Age of Dutch painting.

The viewers' attention will also be drawn to the painting “The Holy Family with Little St. John the Baptist ”by the Florentine Francesco Morandini (1544-1597), master of the High Renaissance. The artist was an assistant to Giorgio Vasari, took part in the painting of the Palazzo Vecchio (1555-1561) and Studiolo Francesco I Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany.

The general public will see many of the 46 works presented at the exhibition for the first time.

The project “Old Masters. Time Travel ”is dedicated to two great collectors - Peter the Great and the scientist-geographer Peter Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky, who was one of the first to follow the path of systematizing and using the scientific base to create private collections. For the exhibition, the organizers have prepared an extensive cultural program with immersive performances, public lectures by famous historians, musicologists, theologians, as well as music concerts and master classes.
