Until the end of the summer season, the exhibition “Karl Rossi.Portrait on the background of Pavlovsk" unusual in its composition and significance is open at the State Museum-Reserve Pavlovsk. The exposition was prepared with the participation of the State Russian Museum, the Research Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts, the Tver State United Museum and the financial support of the Committee on Culture under the Government of St. Petersburg.

The exhibition is housed in the interior of the Grand Palace Library, which bears the name of its creator - Karl Rossi. Who does not know the name of the creator of the magnificent architectural ensembles of imperial St. Petersburg, who was famous for centuries? They can be admired daily. But in Pavlovsk, every visitor, even knowing the works of the architect, will see an unknown Rossi and even a forgotten Rossi, whose creative talent blossomed in Pavlovsk and where he repeatedly returned. So, with the help of architectural projects and exquisite drawing details on watercolor drawings, a portrait of the architect is created against the backdrop of Pavlovsk.

The exhibition presents unique projects of Rossi for the Corner Living Room from the collection of the Museum of the Academy of Arts. It was the find of these sheets that helped recreate the lost interior in all its details. The most significant work of Rossi in Pavlovsk Palace was the erection of the Great Palace Library above the Gonzaga Gallery, later named after its creator, the Rossi Library, which marks 195 years this year. Perished in a fire in January 1944, the revived library lives in the rhythm of a new life, and only the absence of cabinets on the central wall says that the process of recreation is still ongoing. Come to the library when the sun is leaning to the west and its rays are flowing through large semicircular windows, and a miracle happens: furniture made of wavy birch begins to glow with golden radiance and the huge hall fills with a warm light.

An integral part of the exhibition are views of Pavlovsk, which depict the creations of Cameron and Brenna, who undoubtedly influenced the formation of the aesthetic ideals of the architect during the youth of Karl Rossi. Among them are the unique gouaches by S. Shchedrin and D. Scotty, the water colors by T. Vasiliev and A.-F. Shuha.
