Exhibition "Art of eating is beautiful"

The subject of the exhibition covers a long chronological period that characterizes the history of the appearance and purpose of various Russian and European cutlery (from the end of the 19th century to the present). The exhibition is devoted to an overview of the main topics related to the culture of table setting, the etiquette of using cutlery.

The museum invites residents of the city and guests to plunge into the festive atmosphere. Visitors will see the St. Petersburg canteen of the late 19th century; setting the festive table of the Soviet period; unusual cutlery from different periods. Learn about the history and features of table etiquette in Russia; about modern trends in the manufacture and use of cutlery. The main exhibits of the exhibition are household items, dishes, restaurant and holiday menus of the museum, which allows you to acquaint visitors with the rich and varied household collection kept in the museum. Restaurant serving dishes of the Soviet period are presented for the first time.

One of the complexes of the exhibition - "Rules for setting a festive table of the Soviet period" The showcases display tableware items made in the 1920s - 1990s. Particular attention is paid to the specific cutlery used only during this period. (For example - a sauce bowl like a salad bowl, an electric samovar, a teaspoon with a hole in cheap cafes, cut paper napkins).
