This exhibition is planned as part of collaboration between The State Hermitage Museum and the National Museum of the Sultanate of Oman. It will present objects relating to the golden age of the Omani empire and to the ruling dynasty. Islam was adopted here in the seventh century. Today the Sultanate of Oman is ruled by the House of Al Said, which came to power in the eighteenth century. By the end of that century the sultanate controlled extensive territories along the eastern shores of Africa and the south-eastern part of the Arabian peninsula, with outposts in Iran and India. This was the golden age of the Omani sultanate, rulers of which have the title Sultan of Oman and Zanzibar.
