The tradition of maritime parades in St. Petersburg dates back to the time of Peter the Great. The first parade took place on the Neva on September 9, 1714 in honor of the victory of the Russian fleet at Gangut (July 27, 1714).

Over time, the naval parade, originally held in honor of military victories and the memory of them, gradually turned into a demonstration of the ever-increasing power of the navy, its readiness to defend the Fatherland from external threats.

The exhibition, prepared by the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg in cooperation with the Central Naval Museum, will feature over 150 genuine museum items. Works of fine art - painting, graphics, sculpture in combination with posters, documents, models of warships, samples of naval uniforms, as well as photographs, postcards and video materials presented in several multimedia blocks will allow the visitor to get acquainted with the history of one of the most important solemn ceremonies naval life is inextricably linked with the history of the city itself, where it was once born.

The exhibition is open to visitors from July 23 to November 2, 2021.
