The exhibition is timed to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the legendary sixties sculptor Konstantin Simun (1934-2019), author of the famous monument “The Broken Ring” (1966), which became a symbol of Leningrad's feat of arms during the siege.

The exhibited works reveal the innovative creative spirit of the master, which manifested itself in his art in the 1960s-1970s in Russia and developed in the United States, where Simun moved in 1988.

In addition to classical sculptures, the exhibition features a number of never-before-exhibited experimental works by the master. They reveal the “backstage” of artistic thought, reflections on reality, sometimes clothed in paradoxical plastic forms.

Having turned to the ideas of pop art in the 1990s, Simun discovered the most interesting possibilities of working with plastic waste, with various materials found in landfills. Fiberglass, cardboard, iron wire, tin cans, gypsum are built up into art-objects, unexpected in their plastic sharpness and arrangement of forms, which the author fills with emotional and aesthetic content.

The exhibition presents more than 50 sculptures and art objects.
