The Book as Art: The 3rd Book Graphics and Illustrations Biennale

Set up in 2018, this library/exhibition project presents books as an object of artistic culture. This year, the event is hosted by the Rumyantsev Mansion, a venue affiliated within the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg.

The exhibition features the latest works (2020-22) by 45 artists and book illustrators representing three generations of the Russian artistic school, including Boris Anikin (Treasure Island by R.L. Stevenson), Igor Oleynikov (Russian folk fairytales), Anya and Varya Kendel (A Hunter’s Sketches by Ivan Turgenev), Tatiana Tsareva (South Sea Tales by Jack London), and others.

It is for the first time that the biennale also shows illustrations for books that are yet to come out.
