Events / Exhibition

The new permanent exhibition is dedicated to the relationship between Russian and world history in the 19th – 20th centuries. The most important events in Russian history are presented in the context of global political processes. The exposition shows how world events - the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, the First and Second World Wars - influenced the course of Russian history. In turn, significant events in our country, such as the Revolution of 1917, perestroika, the collapse of the USSR, had a serious impact on world civilization.

Visitors will see unique items related to the events of international relations of the past two centuries. This is a rifle donated by General Eisenhower to Marshal Zhukov; a clockwork toy from 1900 depicting a participant in the Boxing Uprising in China, presented to Nicholas II by his mother; fragments of an American plane shot down during the Vietnam War; the banner of the Spanish workers - participants in the Spanish Civil War. Personal belongings of Soviet diplomats - People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs Maxim Litvinov, Ambassadors Alexandra Kollontai and Dmitry Polyansky, a collection of medals and commemorative signs related to the Russo-Japanese War, World War I, the unification of Germany and other events will be presented.

In the center of the hall, the visitor can view an interactive guide to world history of the late 18th - early 21st centuries, presenting more than two hundred events - from the American War of Independence to the Arab Spring. The exposition is complemented by a short animated film “Russia and the World in the 19th – 20th Centuries”.

The project was created with the financial support of the Fatherland History Foundation.

The Museum would like to thank the Archive of the Foreign Policy of the Russian Empire, the Archive of the Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents, and the Russian National Library for the materials provided.
