St. Petersburg State Theater for Young Spectators is one of the oldest children's theaters in Russia - it opened its doors in 1922. Today the Youth Theater bears the name of its founder - director, teacher, People's Artist of the USSR Alexander Alexandrovich Bryantsev, who led the theater for four decades.
Bryantsev strove to bring to life the idea of a "special purpose theater" that would be equally interesting to three generations of spectators: children, teenagers and young people. TYuZ to this day lives according to the artistic principles developed by its legendary founder.
The theater's repertoire contains over fifty performances for children, youth, youth and adults. These are traditional and experimental productions based on Russian and foreign classics, as well as the drama of contemporary authors. There are three stages in the theater building: the Big Stage, the Small Stage and the New Stage (opened in 2017).
Since 2007, the artistic director of the theater projects is the People's Artist of Latvia, Honored Art Worker of Russia Adolf Shapiro
Since 2000, one of the most prestigious theater festivals in Russia "Raduga" has been held on the theater stage, annually bringing together the best performances from Russia and foreign countries.
June 1, 2014, International Children's Day, Theater for Young Spectators named after Bryantseva implemented a project to create an accessible, barrier-free environment for disabled children on the territory of the theater. The theater has mobile ramps for children with disabilities.
