Commissioned by Peter I and created in the early 18th century for ships wintering in Kronstadt, the Italian Pond is part of the local Merchant Harbor. It received its name from Prince Alexander Menshikov’s Italian Palace located nearby.

Major sightseeing attractions include a classical Greek styled building that had housed a fish and drinking water market, and an ancient derrick that had been used to remove masts from ships before winter, and then place them back in spring.

In addition, tourists can visit the Museum of Fort Replicas housed in the building historically known as the Dutch Kitchen, an early 19th century architecture monument.
