The Imperial Yacht Club was the oldest, most famous and most elite of all Russian yacht clubs. It was created in the middle of the 19th century.

Emperor Nicholas I, who became interested in the traditions of water recreation in England, established the Imperial Yacht Club on the initiative of Major General A.Ya. Lobanov-Rostovsky. As indicated on the club sign, this happened on May 1, 1846.

Members of the club could be hereditary nobles, and the size of membership fees even for them was extremely significant. Basically, these were representatives of the military elite, court officials, representatives of the diplomatic services of other states.

Among the honorary members of the club were admirals F.F. Bellingshausen and M.P. Lazarev - the discoverers of Antarctica. The most famous statesman, who was also an honorary member of the Imperial Yacht Club, was the Chief of the Imperial Court, Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin. Throughout the history of the club, its members were 12 representatives of the imperial family.

The charter of the yacht club provided for the form. “Members ... are assigned a green tailcoat, with the same turn-down collar and with an anchor on the collar, embroidered in gold; The buttons on these tailcoats have gold, with a matte center, polished side and an anchor in the navy pattern. Skippers ... are entitled to the same tailcoat, but with an overlaid bronze anchor ... both members and skippers ... have caps with a gold braid, in the entire width of the band, and a cockade, modeled on a military one. "

The first races of the Yacht Club took place on July 8, 1847, west of the Tolbukhin lighthouse on a 12-mile closed triangular track.

During the Soviet and post-Soviet times, the Sea Yacht Club of the Baltic Shipping Company was located here. In 2001, it became the first private yacht club in St. Petersburg - owned by the Burevestnik Group. Today it is a modern marina with 200 berths. On the territory of the yacht club there is a modern residential complex with restaurants and cafes.
