Park
The Botanical Garden of Peter the Great ( Botanical Garden of the V.L Komarov Botanical Institute, RAN ) is one of the oldest botanical gardens in our country. It leads its history from the Aptekarsky garden, established on Voroniy (now Aptekarsky) island by the decree of Peter I of 11 February 1713 for the cultivation of herbs and rare overseas plants.
In the years 1823-1824, a square greenhouse was built, which layout is largely preserved to this day. The total length of the greenhouses is more than a kilometer. At the same time, a park was being created. Today the Botanical Garden has the richest collections of living plants. Thus, in greenhouses, more than 7,500 plant species have been collected, including from the most remote and exotic corners of the planet. This is the fifth largest collection in the world and the largest northern collection.
In Peter the Great Botanical Garden different exhibitions and festivals, lectures and master classes on botanical subjects are held.
