One of the oldest libraries in St. Petersburg was founded in 1907 as a people's reading room. Since 1952, the library is located on the corner of Nevsky Prospekt and Bakunin Avenue, in the former merchant Galunov's house of commerce (the house was built in 1877-1880 in eclectic style designed by architect A.V. Ivanov).

Today Nekrasov's library is a modern cultural space where exhibitions, literary and musical evenings, creative meetings, master classes and film screenings are held.

Since 2012, the Library has hosted the Living Room of Count A. K. Tolstoy, dedicated to the life and work of this outstanding Russian writer.
