Библиотека
One of the nine oldest state libraries of the mass network of St. Petersburg began its work in 1908 as a library reading room in the name of N.V. Gogol of the St. Petersburg Society of People's Universities at the House of Educational Institutions. The reading room was then located on Obvodny Canal, 147. In 1920, it received a name in honor of the famous physiologist who discovered photosynthesis, the founder of Russian and British scientific schools of plant physiologists and the outstanding photographer Clement Arkadyevich Timiryazev.
In 1960, the library moved to a specially designed room for it in a new house on the corner of Shkapina Street and an unnamed lane. In 1980, this lane was named Library.
Today it is a modern creative space where exhibitions of photographers and artists, lectures and master classes, concerts, film classes, language courses and festivals are regularly held. The name Timiryazev determined the concept of the library: the art of photography and botany. Two exhibition spaces have been organized here and a collection of literature on photo art has been collected, and events related to the plant world are being held.
The Timiryazevka funds contain books for children and adults in all branches of knowledge, graphic novels and comics. Free Wi-Fi gives you the opportunity to work independently on your laptop.
You can also play board games here, and becoming a member of one of the library's resident clubs, you can learn English, Japanese and Russian sign languages or play Japanese shogi.
