Route and content of the tour
After the mansion on Angliyskaya Naberezhnaya was, in 1802, acquired by the renowned educator and philanthropist, Count Nikolai Rumyantsev, it had been reconstructed by architect Vasyli Glinka to accommodate Russia’s first public museum that was unveiled on November 23, 1831.
In 1938, it became home for the Museum of the History and Development of Leningrad that has been incorporated into the State Museum of the History of St. Peterrsburg.
In 2003, the mansion’s interiors were recreated according to the 1880s designs. One of its rooms features an 18-sq. meter mirror, the city’s largest one made of a solid glass plate.
