Maria Panina. "A dove, a woman, a sphere and a lot of empty space"

Maria Panina was born in St. Petersburg in a family of artists. Her participation in exhibitions and museum projects began in 2016 with a project at the Museum of the History of Photography dedicated to the study of the phenomenon of “selfies” and the study of self-portraiture in different genres, followed by the exhibition “Let’s Talk on the Table”. In parallel, experiments with formal theatrical productions began. Prior to immersing herself in the field of contemporary art, she studied theater. In her visual language she uses different mediums: installation, performance, object, sewn paintings. One of the obvious themes to be realized in her works is the opposition of the vital and the mortal. Now she is studying at the Moscow School of Design at the Higher School of Economics in the direction of “Design and Contemporary Art”. She studies and works in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The current exhibition in the “Borey” gallery consists of canvases “Approaching the phenomenon”, addressed to the comprehension of the pictorial form, and installations based on the signs depicted in the painting. The vernissage will take place on April 23 at 6 PM.
