Erarta Museum presents the exhibition of the art group KUB, which presents the Russian North in a bizarre surrealistic light.
Since the first exhibition of the Perm-based group KUB at the Erarta Museum in 2021, the community of like-minded artists has evolved into a duo of sculptor Yuri Shikin and graphic artist Yegor Subbotin.
The new exhibition project is inspired by the Russian North, but the North acts here not as a geographical concept, but as a philosophical one. The artists create an image of a special world where myths and legends are woven into everyday life, revealing the deep cultural foundations of today. The creative process helps the authors to find subtle mental threads between the past, present and future.
The project “Warm North” is dedicated to the hard work of “hermits” - lighthouse keepers, polar explorers and commandants of biostations. The source of inspiration for the authors was the realization of how fragile life is in the midst of harsh nature and what a powerful force of spirit supports this life. In the works of the artists, the poorly colored northern nature is transformed into a fantastic world, more like a corner of a metropolis painted by street artists.
