Fyodor Alekseev does not paint, but literally “sculpts” his painting, expressing a non-trivial approach to finding a form in color. A series of paintings commissioned by the Royal House of Cambodia will be displayed at the Artmusa Museum of Modern Art at the retrospective exhibition, Faces of the City, dedicated to the artist's 70th anniversary.

Alekseev literally “throws” avant-garde portraits and landscapes with paint on canvas using a steel knife. The result is three-dimensional compositions that are built on the interaction of spot and space, color and light, minimalism and details. To see the paintings of this master in Russia is a rare opportunity, for until recently he was exhibited exclusively abroad.

The American magazine NY ARTS, represented by journalist Gill Smith, writes about Fyodor Alekseev: "An artist inspired by his place of residence. His oil paintings, which represent vividly defined geometric shapes, enliven the landscapes of St. Petersburg, the artist's hometown. Far from urban aesthetics, however, Alekseyev's works refer to the work of an innovator in traditional Russian painting, namely the great suprematist Kazimir Malevich. Malevich's flatness, geometricity and the idea of color as a form play an important role in Alekseyev's work, resulting in the result of his meticulous work."
