It is usually accepted to call this genre “nature morte” - “dead nature”. And the Dutch call it "stilleven" - "frozen (silent) life." For the Petersburg artist Tatyana Lomzina, the second definition always seemed more appropriate. Her still lives are made up of simple and familiar things that surround us every day and are so familiar that they have become invisible. Tatyana considers things with sincere interest - evidence of a long and recent past, with amazing freedom conveys the textures of materials: an old copper basin or samovar, a porous skin of lemons, transparency of glass, tenderness of lace, geometric simplicity of woven linen napkins.
Tatiana works in an interesting and unusual graphic technique, recreating a hot batik technique on paper. As in hot batik, the effect of miraculous manginess here is captivating, when you don’t immediately understand - how is it done? The artist managed to achieve this effect with ordinary paper: for reservations, she uses liquid latex and rubber glue. The technology turned out to be complex, multi-stage, requiring constant long-term drying.
