The exhibition "Alatas - White Stone" is dedicated to the activities of the publishing house "Alatas", founded by Nikolai Konstantinovich Roerich and Georgy Dmitrievich Grebenshchikov. The exposition was prepared by the State Museum of the History of Literature, Art and Culture of Altai (Barnaul, Altai Territory). The unique documentary materials from the funds of the Barnaul Museum are supplemented with photographs from the Nicholas Roerich Museum in New York and exhibits from the collection of the Museum-Institute of the Roerich family. The first meeting of N. Roerich and G. D. Grebenshchikov took place in Paris in 1923.

NK Roerich, already a famous artist who opened a museum and a school of united arts in the USA, saw the outstanding writing talent and active character of Georgy Dmitrievich Grebenshchikov. Their views were also close. Roerich, who saw the future in the harmonious unification of the cultures of the West and the East, assigned the most important role in this matter to Russia, Siberia, Altai. A native of Altai, Grebenshchikov named Kalmyks and Altai khans among his ancestors, and he devoted his life to maintaining Russian culture in all corners of the world. The joint publishing house of Roerich and Grebenshchikov, which received the name "Alatas" (in the lane "White Stone"), was founded in Paris in January 1924, and then moved to the USA.

Over 40 years of work, several dozen books, brochures in Russian and English, textbooks, postcards, posters have been published. The publishing house had branches in New York, Paris, Riga, Harbin (the latter was managed by Nicholas Roerich's brother Vladimir). Most of the samples of this printed matter today have become real rarities. The exhibition presents almost all editions of the books of "Alatas", including the works of GD Grebenshchikov ("The Messenger", "Egorkin's Life", "Churaevs", etc.) and N.K. and E.I. Light "," Heart of Asia "," Ways of Blessing ", etc.), as well as the works of A.M. Remizov, K.D. Balmont, Ivan Alekseevich Sikorsky (father of aircraft designer II Sikorsky).
