Dedicated to one of the world’s most prominent collectors of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art Sergei Shchukin (1854-1936), and organized by the Stated Hermitage in cooperation with the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow), and Shchukin’s grandson, André Marc Delocque-Fourcaud, the exhibition features over 150 works by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, André Derain, and other masters.

The exhibition’s space has been designed the idea of presenting not just an account of Shchukin’s collection but also interior plans of his former mansion on Znamenka Street in central Moscow.

Shortly before the 1917 revolution, Shchukin drew up a plan of his home and a detailed catalogue with descriptions and photographs of how he had arranged the artworks. The exhibition space in the Manege of the Small Hermitage has been divided up into “rooms” to preserve Shchukin’s original arrangement plans.
