The Beginning. Marking the 90-Year Jubilee of the State Museum for the History of Religion

Marking the 90^th anniversary of the museum that was unveiled Mov. 15, 1932 in the building of St. Petersburg’s Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan (aka Jazan Cathedral), the exhibition tells of the museum’s early years (1932-41).

It features over 100 unique items including a 17^th-century wooden crucifix; a 19^th-century Far East pagan sepulcher; an Italian 15^th-century St. George icon; a model of the palace cathedral in Bogolyubovo (1158-1165); fragments of the models, An Alchemist’s Chamaber and A Spanish 16^th-Century Inquisition Chamber with ancient torture instruments on display; etc.
