The exhibition in Rumyantsev’s Mansion presents over 100 paintings by 22 artists from the Leningrad landscape school of the 1930-40s, who worked outside the official Soviet art boundaries.

Most of them were initially associated with the Circle of Artists (1923-32), who later focused on minimalistic urban landscape, and created new forms with color interactions.

In addition to paintings, the exhibition presents works made in watercolor and gouache techniques, as well as lithographs and engravings. Drawings by masters from the older generation – Georgy Vereisky, Dmitry Mitrokhin, Vladimir Konashevish – are notably connected to the traditions of the Circle of Artists.

A special section in the exhibitions features works created in the besieged Leningrad (1941-44).
