The exhibition is dedicated to the history of the discovery and exploration of Antarctica, the nature of the Southern continent - its climate, geology and fauna, as well as the work of Soviet and Russian stations on the territory of Antarctica.

The exposition will tell visitors about how people searched for unknown land in the Southern Hemisphere, about the First Russian Antarctic expedition, during which the Russian discoverers Thaddeus Faddeevich Bellingshausen and Mikhail Petrovich Lazarev discovered an unknown continent covered with ice. Visitors will learn about the key stages of Antarctica exploration - mapping its shores, the first landing and the first wintering in Antarctica, the dramatic history of the race to reach the South Pole, the first flights over the icy continent.

A significant part of the exhibition is devoted to the work of Soviet and Russian research stations in Antarctica. Since the opening of Mirny and Pionerskaya stations in 1956, our compatriots have collected unique scientific data that allows us to get an idea not only about Antarctica, but also about our planet as a whole, its climate and history, the origin and evolution of life on Earth. Thanks to genuine items provided by the Russian State Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic, visitors to the exhibition will be able to better imagine the life and work of polar explorers in Antarctica, in particular, to see the interior of the world's first inland continental Antarctic station. A special place in the exposition is devoted to the history of the opening of the Vostok station at the South geomagnetic pole, drilling of the ice sheet of Antarctica and the achievement of the ice-covered Lake Vostok.

The exposition includes interactive exhibits that make it possible to trace the stages of mapping of Antarctica, key routes of Antarctic expeditions, and the process of drilling a glacier in the vicinity of Vostok station. Young visitors will be interested in the opportunity to use a multimedia simulator to lead a sailing ship through icebergs or play the game “Feed the Penguin”.

During the exhibition, thematic lectures and excursions will be organized.
