Alexander III. Emperor and collector

February 26, 2020 marks the 175th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Alexander III, whose name the Russian Museum received at its foundation, in April 1895. It was his collections that constituted the original core of the collection of the Museum of Emperor Alexander III.

The anniversary exposition will present about 300 works of painting, graphic art, sculpture and applied art from museums and archives of Russia: the State Russian Museum, the State Hermitage Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of the History of Religion, GMZ Gatchina, GMZ Pavlovsk, GMZ Tsarskoye Selo , State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Karelia, Pskov Regional Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, State Archive of the Russian Federation, Russian State endowment archive of literature and art, as well as private collections.
